RETURN TO SENSIBLE CHEMISTRY HOME
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Welcome to PreAP Chemistry... I'm glad you're here! Please take advantage of this website and the resources it provides. Here you will find your unit syllabus and objectives, a few chapters from Mr. McHam's SensibleChemistry textbook, and all of your labs and homework assignments.
GOOD STUDY HABITS:
After your syllabus packet is distributed in class, READ through the unit objectives.
Take GOOD NOTES during lectures. Leave a few inches blank at the bottom of each notes page in your binder. When you begin to study for the test, use that space to summarize the information contained on that page.
READ the corresponding chapters in Glencoe Publishing's Chemistry: Matter and Change textbook.
READ the SensibleChemistry text on this site.
ASK QUESTIONS in class!
Work through example problems from class again, and do some problems from your textbook or the website as well.
When you come in for tutoring, have a PURPOSE for your time there. Don't simply arrive hoping to be told what you need to know.
REMINDERS:
Success in PREAP Chemistry requires decent to above-average math skills! You must be enrolled in or have completed ALGEBRA II. If you are taking geometry, your options are to either double-up on math or enroll in the regular Chemistry I course.
You will not survive without a scientific calculator! Yes, the library does check out the TI-83Plus, but it is preferable that you purchase your own ASAP. If the cost is prohibitive I recommend the TI-30X IIS (available at most stores for about $15).
Be sure to turn in all of the required forms: The PreAP Contract, Lab Safety Contract, and Course Guidelines Acknowledgement. Without these forms you cannot participate in any class activities!
